First off, you need to find an image that will work good for you.
I chose to use this one here:

Save the image you want, and open it in Photoshop.

Duplicate the layer.

Delete the bottom layer.

Make a new layer.

Drag below the stock layer.

Patience...
This part takes a bit of patience.

Take out your Pen Tool.

Make sure it's set to paths.

Zoom in, start off on a good place, left click on the edge of the render, and keep clicking around the edge in small intervals for a smooth surface.

Continue untill you have went all the way around the image and close the path by clicking your starting point.

Almost there...
You're nearly done.

Right click and go to Make Selection.

Put the feather radius to 0.5 (optional, but looks good.)

Click okay, and now you should have a selection.

Go to Select, then click Inverse.

Press delete, then you should have most of the image rendered.
Continue this process untill you render all of the image.
If you mess something up, just undo it and try again. :)

It's not my best render, but it's just a quick example of how to render. Good luck. ;)
